Goodbye, Past. Hello, Future!

Hello! My first post in 2010! How's everyone's new year so far, hmm? I spent the first week of 2010 in Kuala Lumpur with some friends which was pretty fun and unforgettable (for many reasons).

This post is not JM-related. I was actually reading back the old stuff I blogged before year 2009 started. I wrote about my aims and expectations for last year and managed to tick everything off the list EXCEPT ONE where my good friend Afelda was supposed to visit me in UK along with Ady & Abbas. But that's okay. I knew she had a good reason as to why she couldn't go, so no big deal. :)

Highlights of 2009:

1. Went to a Jason Mraz, Kanye West & Chris Brown concert. Opening acts & special appearances include Two Spot Gobi, Marit Larsen, Mr. Hudson, Santigold & Rihanna. Also went to the Wireless Festival in Hyde Park during the summer before I went back to Brunei for good.

2. Finally went to visit my good friend Reza in Kent after 2 years of stalling!

3. Went to play paintball for the first time! Had the nastiest bruise after the game, but the experience was worth every money and pain!

4. My friends Ady, Wani & Abbas came to visit me in the UK! Thanks, you guys! You're the best! :D

5. I GRADUATED! :D Mama was there too!

6. Home in Brunei for good.

7. My sister Nina, cousin Firdaus and friend Eeez finally got hitched!

8. I became an aunt to baby Naqib!

9. Went fishing for the first time. Never caught a single one!

10. Monkey's a DJ. Hehe.

11. Job-hunting is a real bitch.

12. John Mayer's Battle Studies is out!

Aims & Expectations for 2010:

1. Lose some god damn weight already!

2. Get a fucking job.

3. Buy Mom, Dad & Abbas the best gift ever!

4. Get a fucking job.

5. Reach level 300 in Sorority Life. :p

6. Get a fucking job.

I wish everyone a great year! Good luck to all the job-hunters. Don't worry and be patient. We'll get there one day! ;)

Edge of Desire (Live Solo Version)

John posted a live solo version of "Edge of desire" on his Tumblr. You can check it out by clicking here.

"Home recording of 'Edge of Desire' as a way to say thank you to everyone for making Battle Studies a success." - JM on his Twitter.

BATTLE STUDIES!

It's officially out as of today!!!

If you have listened to it, tell me what you think!

I'm going to be honest here. The first time I listened to the whole album, I lost that feeling of excitement. It was very... anticlimactic. After listening to it again and again, I realised something. John has always emphasised on how much he's taking a new musical direction with Battle Studies. Whether we like it or not, it really does show how much he has progressed from Room For Squares to Continuum and now this. Every album is different and I'm learning to accept that. There are around 4-5 songs that I just absolutely love and a few of them that are slowly getting to me. If I'm not feeling too lazy, I'll talk about it on my next post. ;)

"Thanks everyone for following along... for inspiring me to keep going by way of your excitement... for taking my mind off of things when I couldn't sleep... and for accepting me. My favorite replies are the ones that say I made you smile at work. You make me smile at work, too." - JM on his Twitter.

Thank you, John, for making us a part of your life with your beautiful music. In the meantime, keep the good music rolling!

P/S: I hate to say this, but the cover sucks.

Featuring Taylor Swift?

I posted a video of John working on "Half of my heart" for his upcoming album a few months ago (which will be out on November 17th by the way, exactly TEN DAYS from now! Woo-hooo!), and I just found out today that Taylor Swift is actually featured in this track as well. I'm not her biggest fan, but I do like some of her songs. :) I'm so excited about his new album, aren't you???
